I did get the songs... Such a pleasure to listen to them! You have very much tapped into the Great American Songbook style of legends as Gershwin, Kern, Arlen, Berlin, etc. It's a style I love, and you do it very well.

Regarding Fugitive Songs:  It is a wonderful calling card for the team and a terrific showcase for the cast. ...Joshua Eli Kranz's savvy musical direction... and the quality and character in the six voices of the ensemble make this production memorable.

–Michael Van Duzer

Regarding Fugitive Songs:  The musical direction by Joshua Eli Kranz is exemplary, the four-piece band... give the piece the feel of a rock concert without overpowering the vocals. ... Fugitive Songs is one of the best of this year's Fringe. There are ballads and uptempo numbers, heartbreakers and laugh-out-loud funny tunes. There are group numbers, solos, duets, trios, and every manner of grouping in between. It's a very inventive and involving piece of musical theatre... Each cast member gets several moments to shine, displaying their versatility and range. ... There are some wonderful songs here, sung with verve by a strong ensemble....

“I have gotten to know the work of composer/songwriter Joshua Eli Kranz very well over the past year or so.  His music is very much in the tradition of the Great American Songbook, yet he manages to bring a fresh sound and perspective. In many ways, he reminds me of George Gershwin while at the same time sounding very much like himself.  His songs are very catchy and memorable, and after listening to them, I want to hear them again and again, which is about the greatest compliment one can pay a creative artist.
I have listened several times to their song, “The Coldest Winter, (Ah Maria)” written in collaboration with lyricist Carmelita Thomas. …  I think it is a beautiful song with a certain epic grandeur about it.  I have been working as an orchestrator and conductor in Hollywood for many years, and would love to arrange this song for vocal soloist and string orchestra.  A song such as this demands a top-flight instrumental background….”

Theater review: ‘Absolute Black’ at ZJU Theatre Group
Atmospheric authenticity is furthered by Natalie Hyde’s superbly swanky costumes and a sultry soundtrack that includes original tunes by Carmelita Thomas and Joshua Kranz.

Just wanted to put in writing how much I enjoyed AND THE WORLD GOES ROUND last night. I was sitting in a seat that gave me the opportunity to watch your piano playing as much as the rest of the cast. What a treat! I'm proud of you Joshua!
