Most writers, artists, or musicians write or paint themselves into their work. I began writing I Found My Way, a song about myself dealing with insecurity and the internal forces which keep me moving forward. Those forces are the elements which enable me to compose music and write lyrics. A funk/gospel Dave Brubeck sound seemed the right way to musicalize I Found My Way. I plan on writing in a drum part to go along with the piano before recording this song. The lyrics have a hopeful feel because that is how I am fortunate to feel in my new place in my life. I wrote I Found My Way in the key of E major. I am inspired/I learn from doing different things/No barriers can hold me back/I give everything I do my all/ And if I fall/I get right back up/Like a springboard/ It’s called resilient…There is no time like the present/So I don’t wait/I can’t think what if?/ But what will be/I need to be the best version of myself everyday/So I am at peace with myself in every way. Those are lyrics from the Bridge and 3rd Verse. I know there may be a contrast between how I understand myself to be and how others think of me since it is a challenge to know accurately how anyone feels. I am progressing steadily writing down and arranging my music so that I will have the pleasure to have it published and hear it played by other musicians and performers. Thank you to Ismarlow5 in Iowa who became my fan yesterday listening to Misty. I have been doing final editing for my album. Each time I listen to Misty, I realize how much I like the lyrics: I get misty, just holding your hand…/Can’t you see that you’re leading me on? / And it’s just what I want you to do, /Don’t you notice how hopelessly I’m lost/ That’s why I’m following you./ On my own, / When I wander through this wonderland alone, / Never knowing my right foot from my left/ My hat from my glove/ I’m too misty, and too much in love. Johnny Burke got the feeling of being in love perfect and Erroll Garner wrote just the right music for it. Thank you for reading my blog and listening to my music. It’s feels good to have you on my side. Orlando…What happened in Orlando is deplorable. It is horrible that it happened when the LGBT community were dancing and listening to music. Music is for creating a better world not to destroy it.
